Hovig

Born in Santa Monica, Hovig has been playing guitar for over a decade now with his passion for music and creative interests developing early on. In 2013, he received his B.A. in Music from UC Riverside, having studied jazz guitar and Latin American music as his main focus. In this time, he has been in many music groups and ensembles including Javanese Gamelan, Mariachi band, Indonesian Keroncong band, Rondalla string ensemble, Latin American music ensemble, and the UCR Jazz band as well as being the lead guitarist for local Riverside alternative rock band Pococurante.

Being a multi-instrumentalist, he has experience with many other instruments other than just guitar, such as piano, traditional drums, bass guitar, Andean panpipes, quena flutes, charango and bandurria stringed guitars, various Afro-peruvian and Latin percussion, mandolin, marimba, electronic synthesizers and much more.

Having moved back to Santa Monica, he is currently composing and producing various music projects, blending in a wide diverse range of music styles into his work with a particular interest in experimental sound manipulation and ambient film music.

As a teacher, Hovig works with all skill levels and instills goal-oriented ambition in his students along with creating a good foundation for music fundamentals, technique, ear training and rhythm. With each student varying from the next, he adapts his lessons to a student’s specific needs and musical interests and most importantly hopes to create a fun and inspiring atmosphere for young musicians to learn and be passionate about music and sound.

Hovig teaches electric/acoustic guitar from pop, rock to jazz and everything in between for all ages, primarily in the westside areas of Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Beverly Hills, Venice, Culver City, as well as other areas of Los Angeles upon request.
